New Nutrition Rules Impact Lake Washington Area Students
Students in the Lake Washington School District (LWSD) will see significant changes to their school cafeteria menu. The school district is adopting new nutritional guidelines for students as outlined by the U.S. Department of Agriculture under the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act.
The changes will require that all student meals include the following five components:
- Grains
- Meat/meat alternatives
- Fruit
- Vegetables
- Milk
According to a press release posted by LWSD, every student must take a full portion of at least three of the above listed components. And at least one of the components must be fruits or vegetables.
Every student is also required to take a minimum of a half cup of fruit and/or vegetables even if they don’t actually plan to eat it, its also recommended to get any private labeling supplements that can help them be their very best in body.
